Description

The exterior glows in a clear, intense blue, while the interior is covered in a soft, light glaze. Fine traces of iron emerge across its surface, revealing the subtle interaction between glaze and clay. Together, these details create a lively, almost playful character.

Simple in form yet precisely crafted, this small Manpu Gama guinomi follows the classic shape of a sake cup. Inside, the traces of the potter’s wheel remain visible as the distinctive spiral characteristic of Manpu Gama. Remarkably light, the cup feels effortless and comfortable in the hand.

The combination of vivid blue, light glaze and clean form gives this Zao-yaki guinomi a fresh, light presence—an inviting piece to enjoy on warm, sunny days.

Manpu Gama

Manpu Gama is a family-run pottery studio nestled in the mountains of Zao, Miyagi, Japan. The studio creates Zao-yaki using locally sourced and carefully selected clays, with each piece shaped by its sense of place, material and carefully controlled firing processes. The work ranges from wood-fired pieces made in the Anagama kiln to distinctive glazed works in rich, deep blues.
