Description

Hayashi Yuka’s Shino guinomi sake cups are as refined and poetic as her Shino chawan tea bowls. With their reduced, minimalist form, they appear contemporary and integrate effortlessly into modern everyday life. At the same time, they are directly connected to the centuries-old tradition of Shino ware from the Mino region.

For these small guinomi sake cups, Hayashi Yuka uses high-quality Mogusa clay from the region, along with a specially developed feldspar-based Shino glaze. The warm, rich and slightly translucent glaze reveals the characteristic yuzuhada (柚肌) pinholes, as well as fine, organic crackle patterns across the surface.

Through deliberately applied iron oxide painting, contrasting geometric stripes emerge on the surface. These enter into a dialogue with the pale clay body and the whitish-pink Shino glaze, creating a dynamic interplay of grey, black, and white tones. At the rim of the bowl, subtle reddish firing discolourations also appear, adding further visual depth to the surface.

The surface of this sake cup is vividly textured: fine cracks and openings reveal the dark clay beneath, creating a layered, almost landscape-like depth.

Each Shino guinomi is delivered in a signed paulownia wood box.
