Description

Large round serving platter with two handles. The coarse red clay, coated with a transparent glaze, allows the texture of the clay to show through. The interplay of colours resulting from the saggar firing with straw enhances every dish and invites sharing.

Isegahama Toubou – Tomokiyo Kunio

In the early 1980s, Tomokiyo Kunio established his workshop in Hyuga, on the southern island of Kyushu. Shaped by the sea and nature, his functional ceramics have a distinctly rugged character. His time in Mashiko and Kasama—both renowned pottery centres for glazed ceramics—can be seen in his skilful use of a wide range of glazes.
