Description

Meet Joba, one of the graceful Raku sculptures by sculptor Marie Juge. Slim and delicate, this silhouette appears to turn on its own axis, with a subtly suggested facial expression beneath the turban, conveying composure and elegance.
Modelled in white clay, the statue was bisque-fired at 980°C before being fired in a Raku kiln at 1000°C, and then smoked in an airtight container with straw and other damp materials. The relief-like pattern of the dress was achieved through a contracting white glaze.

Electric kiln / Raku kiln.

Delivered with a metal stand (8 × 8 cm).

Sculpture dimensions: 38 cm × 6 cm × 4 cm.

Marie Juge – Sculptor

The Paris-based artist Marie Juge draws inspiration for her work from the layered world of textiles and haute couture, as well as the creative and destructive force of fire. She models her graceful silhouettes in clay and decorates them with delicate textile-inspired patterns. The distinctive black-and-white contrasts and Raku crackle effects are achieved through a Raku firing process.
