Description
Manpu Gama’s Yamamichi Yakishime sake cup stands out for its unusually organic, subtly triangular form. Its soft curves flow into a distinctive “Yamamichi” rim, whose irregular contour evokes a winding mountain path—a fitting reference to the cup’s origins in the Zao mountains. Despite its expressive shape, the guinomi feels remarkably natural and comfortable in the hand.
During the Anagama firing, the sake cup was strongly exposed to natural ash. Inside, the ash glaze gathered along the walls, flowing into a dense, glass-like layer. On the exterior, areas of intense, deep blue emerged through the interplay of ash, clay and fire.
Capacity: approx. 40 – 50 ml
Manpu Gama is a family-run pottery studio nestled in the mountains of Zao, Miyagi, Japan. The studio creates Zao-yaki using locally sourced and carefully selected clays, with each piece shaped by its sense of place, material and carefully controlled firing processes. The work ranges from wood-fired pieces made in the Anagama kiln to distinctive glazed works in rich, deep blues.
