Description
Suzuki Takashi’s Mikan jug captivates with its elegant, flowing form and the striking colour contrast between the light, speckled clay and the vivid blue glaze. This distinctive design draws every eye.
Whether as a complement to the Mikan sugar bowl or as an elegant sake jug, the Mikan jug is versatile in use and adds a special touch to any occasion.
Mikan Kaiyū Glaze:
For his Mikan Kaiyū ash-glaze creations, Suzuki Takashi uses a special blend of different clay types. The light tone and slightly granular texture of the clay provide the ideal base for the Mikan ash glaze.
This glaze is made from the ash of citrus tree branches. “Mikan” means clementine or mandarin in Japanese. When combined with iron, it produces a distinctive, shimmering turquoise blue that makes Suzuki Takashi’s work instantly recognisable.
The pieces are fired for over 18 hours in a gas kiln to achieve their final form and colour.
Suzuki Takashi, a talented career changer, founded his studio Kōbō Daidai in Nebukawa in 2006. His refined celadon works are distinguished by their captivating depth of colour and subtle variations in tone.
The shimmering Mikan Kaiyū ash glaze, made from the ash of citrus trees, is a tribute to his roots and creates a striking contrast with the light clay of the ceramics.
