Description

Workshop Sake & Ton: The Soul of the Vessel

8 October 2026, from 6.30 pm

In Japan, it is said that a good sake only truly reveals itself in the right vessel. In this workshop, you will explore how touch, form and material can transform the enjoyment of sake – a journey in which your hands shape the form and your palate discovers its nuances.

Inspired by works by selected contemporary ceramic artists, we begin with an introduction to the world of Japanese sake ceramics. You will handle different vessels, feel the differences between them, learn about how they are made, and discover why Japanese ceramics are not merely functional, but an experience in themselves. You will then hand-build your own sake cup – a process that invites you to feel the clay, consciously choose its form, and understand the “soul” of the vessel. This is followed by a guided sake tasting with Jeanne Therre, a certified sake expert, who will draw parallels between terroir in sake and in ceramics.

Who is this workshop for? For anyone who appreciates sake and would like to experience the connection between craftsmanship, the senses and tradition. No previous experience is required – only curiosity and an open mind.
