Description
Here is Silhouette Nina, one of the graceful, elongated Raku figures by sculptor Marie Juge. A mysterious aura surrounds the slender sculpture with its wide dark hat, whose random black-and-white pattern draws the eye. At the same time, the tactile quality of the dress, adorned with glazed beads, is captivating.
Modelled from white clay with a Raku glaze, the figure was fired in a Raku kiln at approximately 1000°C, then smoked with various materials such as straw to achieve these remarkable crackle effects and black-and-white finishes.
Electric kiln / Raku kiln.
Delivered with a metal stand (8 × 8 cm).
Sculpture dimensions: 37 cm × 4.5 cm × 5 cm (shoulders) / 10 cm (hat).
The Paris-based artist Marie Juge draws inspiration for her work from the layered world of textiles and Haute-Couture, as well as the creative and destructive force of fire. She models her graceful silhouettes in clay and decorates them with delicate textile-inspired patterns. The distinctive black-and-white contrasts and Raku crackle effects are achieved through a Raku firing process.
