Description
The sculptural vase reveals itself in a new light from every angle. Its carved Shinogi design, with sharply faceted grooves, gives the piece a distinctive sense of strength and flowing movement.
The impression of bamboo swaying in the wind is further enhanced by the vibrant green glaze with yellow and subtle bluish accents. Kimura Hajime’s cobalt-based Ruri-Mino glaze is showcased here in a rich, lush, and glossy green. Tiny crystals evoke the appearance of morning dew, while the flowing glaze adds to the vase’s dynamic character.
For this vase, Kimura Hajime used local clay that he excavates and prepares himself. Its high iron content contributes to the remarkable depth of the glaze colors. After being shaped by hand, the vase was fired in a gas kiln over two days at temperatures of up to 1200°C.
The vase is delivered in a custom-made paulownia wood box.
Coming from a long pottery tradition and representing the sixth generation of his family, Kimura Hajime has drawn upon this savoir-faire and his passion to create his two signature glazes: Ko-Mino and Ruri-Mino, both inspired by the highly esteemed Ki-Seto glaze. These glazes are distinguished by the depth of their color and their lively, snowflake-like patterns, which lend each piece a fresh and vibrant appearance.
